Dear colleagues,
At the sessions of the Working Group for the International Registration of Music Archives held in Pˇrigueux this past July we discussed the necessary and optimum components for creating a web database. We decided that we should endeavor to build a system with the following hardware, software and support.
A T1 connection to the Internet
A UNIX server with good memory and storage
Apache Web Server/Application Server Software
MySQL or Oracle database
PHP as the means of connecting the database to HTML
Some support staff to assist with the programming
At the meeting we agreed to conduct a quick and informal poll among the groupÕs participants and observers to ascertain the best location for developing the database. I hope to make this as simple as possible so that everyone will be able to respond. If you feel that the resources at your institution could be adequate and available for our project please respond to the following questions. If the resources available at your institution are not available or adequate, please still respond to the first question.
Does your institution have computer hardware, software and/or staff support that could be used by the IAML Working Group on Archives to create and maintain a web database? yes no
What type of server hardware is available?
What type of web server software is available?
What type of application server software is available?
What type of database software is available?
What CGI software is available for connecting the database to HTML?
What degree of support staff is available for maintaining and developing the system?
Please respond by email. Again, even if you feel your institution could not assist with the project, please respond to the first question.
Sincerest thanks,
David Day
