Greetings all,
We just added a new feature to the database that -- given the prevailing Òsnowboard lingoÓ of the Olympics -- I guess you would describe as super cool (thatÕs probably not even close). When you do a basic search the system provides an index of the search results. Now you can click on the titles in the index and it will display a more detailed description of the archive. For those archives that have online finding aids there is a link provided to the URL. This is the case of many of the Berkeley records. Give it a try! Do a Basic Search on the word ÒpapersÓ. Browses through the index and click on a title to see the fuller display. Then, when you find an archive with a URL click on it and you will love the results!
Many thanks to John Bewley, Chris Banks, and Jeannine Barriault who responded to my last plea. You can now see records from their institutions beginning to appear in the database. I think we will have more than 300 real records in the system by the end of this week. I urge you all to try entering some sample records. It is best if you contact me first to give you a real user name and password. That way the system will keep track of the records that you create.
I will be leaving for Las Vegas on Friday morning. I will not be back in the office until February 25. I will be making a demonstration of the database in the session of the Archives Roundtable. Stephen Todd the student programmer will also be gone next week as the university is taking a break for the Olympics.
We are still working on full-text and advanced searching. I am quite certain it will be up and running before the end of the month.
Best regards,
David Day
