B. RILM Abstracts

RILM is a great resource for dance scholarship. It indexes journals, theses, dissertations, even books—with the focus being scholarly research.

D. Dance Division of the New York Public Library :

This is probably the best and most comprehensive resource for dance. Formerly, we subscribed to NYPL’s product called “Dance on Disk,” and this is still available, but is out-dated. The best way to access journal articles indexed by NYPL is to use a resource called WorldCat.

1. Start at the library home page: http://www.lib.byu.edu/

2. On the left hand side, go to where it says “More… Select one”

3. Click on the down arrow, and from the list that comes up, choose “Other Libraries” then click on “GO.”

4. You will be taken to a webpage that has two columns of other library choices. The one you want is at the bottom of the right hand column, and is called “WORLDCAT.” See example on next page:

5. Click on the WorldCat (OCLC) link.

6. Enter your search terms and click the search button:

7. You have the option to limit your search by format. If you are searching for articles, you can click on the article limiter so that only articles are displayed.

8. All the articles will have been indexed by NYPL. They will display like this:

9. Click on the title line, underlined and in blue, to read the abstract of the article.

10. Use the ACTIVE MUSIC AND DANCE JOURNALS link as described in A.6. to find out if BYU’s Music and Dance Library subscribes to “Dance Theatre Journal.”

11. If BYU doesn’t subscribe to the journal you need, use the Interlibrary Loan Link which is imbedded in this search: Send Request to ILLiad (InterLibrary Loan)
